So I love Glee! I really do, I love musicals and I love stories about plucky misfits banding together to be awesome, and I'm happy to see other people on my flist who adore it too.

But.

Two female characters pining for an oblivious male already in a relationship with a manipulative control freak? Really? Is that theme so very important that we need to get it in double?

I saw some people who really loved Rachel's Take a Bow at the end and I was excited for it when she started singing, but then...eh. "The award for the best liar goes to you / For making me believe that you could be faithful to me." I get that she's into him and that he's giving seriously mixed signals, but he's taken. If you're the girl he cheated with, it's not cheating when he goes back to his steady. Don't play the wronged one for going after someone in a relationship and not succeeding.

And dude needs to either firmly tell Rachel no, or break up with Quinn. Anything else is dick move, and I don't approve of it in a char I'm supposed to root for.

Emma, for all that she's currently deciding to settle for less than great because she doesn't feel complete on her own (augh!), at least was able to stand up and tell Will that they weren't going to play at flirting anymore when it was unhealthy for both of them.

I don't believe people should stay in unhappy relationships, and I look forward to Will/Terri and Finn/Quinn either breaking apart or settling into something healthier (no, seriously, I could do Finn/Quinn if he grew a spine and she relaxed into having fun). But being unsatisfied doesn't make it okay to fool around on the side. It'd just be a character flaw except it's happening in both of these parallel storylines and, come on, show, you can do better than that.

Um, I could take this opportunity to go into some problems with the minority characters fading into background singers all the time and not having any real personality, but it's only the second episode so I'm gonna wait and see. Maybe the show will do one of those awesome trope-subversions if we let it build a little.

Otherwise I do love it, honest! Even if seeing Reid's mom as the cheerleading coach seriously throws me.
